Run Forrest Run

I know you were probably expecting a post of my synopsis of the Met Gala and how I was bored with everyones choices because wearing silver does not mean "Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology" or how someone should have ushered Selena Gomez(in Louis Vuitton) to the side and gave her a different dress. But instead, since this is my blog and I love sharing ideas, thoughts, theories, art and experiences; and I enjoy collecting images and words, from my life, books I read, conversations I have, thoughts I think and putting it all together on here I felt this was the perfect opportunity to take my racing mind and go on a mini rant regarding Forrest Gump the movie I watched following the Gala.

Some call it multifaceted, I call it complex.

More times than not, I enjoy reminding myself of how blessed I am rather than focusing on the opposite. Tonight I watched Forrest Gump, and while reminding myself of how beautiful the most simplest things are in life, I found myself craving a simpler mind, surprisingly. It’s so interesting to see how innocent Forrest Gump remained until he grew old, and only the things that really mattered in life (family, love, friendships, etc) ever had a true effect on him.
It’s not that I want a simpler mind, I’d just like to float like a feather, if that makes any sense. It’s stimulating to see how different Gump was than all of his peers, simply because he didn’t think so much about certain things. It’s also stimulating to see how far in life it took him. No matter what Forrest stayed true to himself, not by choice, because he knew no other way.
Nowadays with technology, it’s so easy to be steered in different directions and taken down paths that may seem true to you at the moment, but in reality, they’re not. Maybe if my mind was a bit simpler, I would just float like a feather… Or not even think too much about thinking at all. I hate thinking too much. I have a love/hate relationship with that feeling. I love to learn and be aware of new things, but I hate to focus on the what, whys, and hows of what may never change.
To covet another’s thought processes is not what I wish to do, but it’s frustrating at times to be so complex.

It makes you wonder… maybe… bliss is ignorance.

STELLA

I am absolutely loving these Stella McCartney looks for RTW Spring 2016 collection; it feels like a breath of fresh air.. The textures, colours and fits make my skin tingle with excitement for warmer weather. As we know, the color blocking trend has been around for quick some time and as bold as she is this designer combines vivid orange and blue or chili red with pink hues effortlessly!
Spring has s p r u n g.

Summer Essentials

It is April and although it isn't quite summer yet, every other year my family and I go to Jamaica to visit relatives, and every year I accumulate a list of products that I can't survive without on my trip. A little sure goes a long way!

Go naked with the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer: Whether you're going to the beach or just feel like embracing the carefree summer vibe, skip base entirely and stick to concealer. I wear the shade ‘Caramel,’ which has a deep, warm undertone that cancels out the purple under my eyes brilliantly. This is great for blemishes and redness also.

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara: This makes my lashes look the most ‘faux,’ thickening and lengthening for an all round wide-awake look & doesn't flake in the humid heat.

Vaseline Rosy Lips: The perfect hint of color to layer over lipliner or to wear alone for a natural sheen - great to keep lips hydrated and plump

MAC ‘Whirl’ Lip Liner: Amazing shade of deep mauve/pink which looks great day or night & has incredible staying power.

Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray: My hair can be a bit of a nightmare in the humidity, this handy spray gives me the right amount of texture and holds my natural wave beautifully without drying out my scalp - amazing product!

Coconut: UUUGHHH MAAA GAAAHH, the water to drink, the jelly to eat, the oil to hydrate my skin. WIN WIN WIN!!

So there you have it, my super simple summer essentials.. Xx

Listen Linda

Hands down my favorite 90's supermodel, Linda Evangelista never fails to serve sassy, sassy, seductive. This editorial was shot by Steven Meisel for Vogue Italia February 1989 - I was not even born yet! I find this so inspiring for Spring/Summer; the textures, colors and fits make my skin tingle with excitement for warmer weather. Through the photos you can feel the sensuality & sultriness, needless to say Cuba is on my bucket list this year!

Law Roach

From barista to stylist of the stars, Image Architect Co Creator of Daya by Zendaya and stylist, Luxury Law has racked up quite a few celebrity names under his Hermes belt. If you’ve ever caught yourself drooling over Zendaya Coleman’s many looks, or envied Arianna Grande, Monica Brown or Brandy’s slick ensembles, chances are Law Roach was behind them! Apprehensive as it is to admit, I have been twitter and instagram stalking the two to keep updated on his work. Working with young celebrities can be a difficult task because they can go too mature too fast yet, with Zendaya, Law seems to effortlessly draw the line between still fashionable yet age appropriateHe has elevated looks from hip to haute.

New Barneys Who Dis

Not a rendering, this is a real life stairway to heaven. Barney's new 17th and 7th location opened over a month ago and my fave part? The spiral staircase! See the original spiral stairs from the original Barney's at the Rubin Museum close by. Modernity runs throughout the department store. Besides the obvious, there is also the restaurant, Fred's with lots of bar seats + wifi. Try the iced draught latte, great hotspot!

GUCCI RESORT 2016
Gucci’s New Creative Director, Alessandro Michele, has started a war, and has made Gucci the headliner. Say hello to the Gatsby woman - more refreshed and modern with the same beautiful vintage feel. I hear old tales, jazz records, and shuffles of romantic love letters when I see this line. Gucci now feels alive.

Thank you Mr. Michele.

Partition Please

 Double Vision

Who said you can't show a little leg in the winter? Reem Acra made Lace and Leather the name of the game for her F/W 2016 RTW Runway Presentation. This Secret World of the Femme Fatale provides endless inventive cuts and cascading ruffles of chiffon or satin with a boudoir twist. My only regret was not becoming obsessed with her brilliance sooner.

And then I fell in love. Layer until your heart hurts! F/W 2016 Perfect Coop-leh Proenza Schouler came back and better with more layers to attenuate triangle silhouettes. As often as they could they incorporated lacing: up the front of a fine gauge sweater, cinching the sides of a classic jean jacket in red wool twill, holding together the lapels of a long blazer which gave the line an appreciated modern twist. This runway presentation totally satisfies my obsession with the timeless aura of a bold red lip. Well done Proenza Schouler.

T is for Trend

A Detacher; Christian Siriano; Jill Stuart; Cushnie et Ochs

RuffRyda.
This season the ruffle is the game-changing flourish on dresses, sleeves, and even otherwise sedate trousers. It adds softness to tailoring, movement to minimalist offerings, and always, always a sense of charm and drama, which is essential to survive the holidays. Here, designers like Christian Siriano and Jill Stuart show how easy it is to be both fabulously frilly and unfathomably fashionable.

All Time Fav

Prada’s Spring/Summer 2014 line needs no introduction.

Though I’ve loved the collection since it first was released to the public that Fall, a random obsession arose when doing some market research. All hail the perfect collection for the lover of art who dabbles between prim&proper to sporty chic throughout her wardrobe. What I love most are the faces on the bags shown on the runway, they give the slightest feel of womanism and female empowerment- not overdone. Of course, you can never go wrong with a pair of army green knee high socks for that extra F YOU you’d rather than utter. Discretion is key, girls.

You go, Glen Coco. You go.
